The Makarska Riviera has a great geographic location. You have the Adriatic sea, the mountain and it is a great spot to be located to visit many towns and islands. You can go to the islands with the ferry or take a day trip on a boat.
You have probably heard of the island Hvar and Brač, two of the most famous islands on the dalmatian coast.
The island Brač is most famous for the Zlatni rat beach. Zlatni rat is one of the most beautiful pebble beaches on the Croatian coast and also the most recognizable sight of Bol. The tip of the beach changes its shape and side from day to day due to the wind, sea current and waves.
Vidova gora is the highest point of Brač and of all the Croatian islands. From there you can enjoy the view of Zlatni rat, Biokovo mountain and the surrounding islands.
Brač is also known for its white stone. Many churches and palaces in Dalmatia were built with the stone from Brač, but the most popular is the Diocletian palace in Split. The stone was also used in the vestibule of the United Nations building in New York. Some say that it was also used in some parts of the White House in Washington, but there is no credible evidence for that. There is also a Stonemason School in Pučišća.
Island Hvar
Hvar is known as the sunniest island on our coast, with more than 2718 sunny hours in the year. Because of its climate and nature, it is no wonder that Hvar is a popular tourist destination. You can enjoy the day on many beaches and the night in many restaurants, bars, and clubs.
Probably the most popular view of the Hvar city is from the Fortica fortress from the 16th century. Hvar is also known for agriculture. You have to try the local wine and olive oil. There are also lavender fields on the island. You can see the beautiful fields in full bloom in June and July and take a small piece of Hvar with you in the form of lavender essential oils.
Next to Hvar is the island group Paklinski otoci. The 20 islands are a great getaway from Hvar. You can swim and relax on the many beaches or try some delicious food in the restaurants by the sea. Who wouldn’t like to sip on local wine while you enjoy the sea breeze and a beautiful view?
